Cities: Skylines is a single-player open-ended city-building game that is developed by Colossal Order and published by Paradox Interactive. In March 2015 the game was released for Linux, Windows PC and macOS. In 2017 it was released for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Cities Skylines is a modern 3D video game based on the classic city simulation. The game introduces new game play features to comprehend the excitement and hardships of creating and maintaining a dynamic town. The game also has a day and night cycle, a built-in weather system. The game boasts a fully realized transport system and transport choices while testing them to meet citizen’s wants using more than a few original built-in features which changes the approach to the supervision of town. Building city from the land is simple to learn, but difficult to master. Playing as the mayor of your town player is faced with balancing vital requirements such as schooling, water, electric power, police force, health and more along with city’s actual financial system.

      

Cities Skylines Gameplay:

In the game players begin with a plot of land that is equal to a 2 by 2 kilometer alongside an interchange exit from a nearby highway and some money. The game contains some premade terrains to build on, and also contains a map editor to let players to generate their own maps, including the use of real geographic features. The player starts adding roads and residential, industrial, and commercial zones and various basic services like electricity, water and sewage as to motivate inhabitants to move in and provide them jobs.  As the city expands the player unlocks city improvements including educational services, police force, medical health facilities, tax, transit and other features for city management. Buildings in the city have different growth levels that are met by enhancing the particular area, with higher levels giving more profits to the city. For example, a commercial store will grow in level if nearby inhabitants have better education level, which in turn will be able to let more staffs to be employed and increase city’s tax revenue. When user accumulates sufficient inhabitants and money, users can buy nearby land. The game has a good transportation system letting the player to design better city’s public transportation such as buses and subway systems in order to reduce traffic problem. Roads can be constructed straight or free-form of different widths depending upon traffic volumes.


Cities Skylines DLC Expansion Packs:

Several DLC expansion packs are released for the game, most recent are as below:

Mass Transit DLC Expansion Pack released on 18 May, 2017 contains different settings for the game's mass transit systems including cable cars, ferries, monorails and blimps etc.

Concerts DLC Expansion Pack released on 17 August, 2017 contains the facility for users to put events venues for festivals and concerts and regulations for these events.

Green Cities DLC Expansion Pack released on 19 October, 2017 let the users to implement principles associated with ecological improvements to cities such as electric cars and solar panel rooftops etc.

Parklife DLC Expansion Pack released on 24 May, 2018 contain features of building theme customizable parks, gardens, national parks and zoos.

The finest city builder game in more than a decade. The game has very few flaws as I only saw them after many hours of play. Where other games have failed, Cities: Skyline succeeded and has set the new standard.
