We have provided all information we know about Resident Evil 2 remake in this article. The important updates include why its camera is from the third person over the shoulder perspective & its collector’s edition.

The game is not explicitly titled as a Resident Evil 2 remake because it is almost completely changed. RE 2 was originally a PS 1 video game.

Resident Evil 2 Story:

RE 2 will let you control rookie cop Leon Keneddy & college student Claire Redfield, who must find an escape from Raccoon city after the inhabitants are changed into flesh eating zombies. The disaster occurred due to a virus two months after the events of Resident Evil.

Marvin Branagh is a police officer who warns Leon of the risks ahead. He stays in the main hall after bitten by zombie & offers you a survival knife. The story is different though Leon once again reaches police station. Now you are forced to explore the Eastern side of the police station before reaching Marvin instead of encountering him first to unlock the door to both Western & Eastern sections.

Resident Evil 2 Gameplay:

You can play Resident Evil 2 from a third person over the shoulder perspective just like Resident Evil 4. The camera is changed very much from the original fixed camera system but the remaster still emphasizes survival horror above all else. You don’t have high power like the other action oriented games in the series offered you.

The new aiming style lets you feel like a modernized version of the aiming from typical RE games that allows you to move & pick out where you want your shots to land.

When you aim at your target, the cardinal markers on your reticle slowly move until they are closed in on the center, allowing you to fire a more accurate shot. But when you move, the reticle resets & it takes some time to close in again.

The game lets you solve puzzles, find keys, collect resources & you can save them in boxes. You now have even more freedom to search & discover secrets at your own pace. You can find out new pathways & gain new items that might help you open up the way to your objective.

Resident Evil 7 was like classic Resident Evil video game but you could only use first person camera. Resident Evil 2 remaster feels the same like part 7 but the camera is fixed over the shoulder.

Why Resident Evil 2 remaster is a third person video game?

Capcom uses over the shoulder camera in Resident Evil 2 because they want fans to feel the experience of playing the game to be very frightening in nature. The zombies encounter will be more terrifying in this kind of view. It helps in opening new possibilities for the series classic puzzle solving. After watching the E3 2018 gameplay demo we found that the game plays well with third person view & it makes the exploration more feasible. We saw in demo that it was easy to control Leon when he was travelling through corridors of the police department.

How much Resident Evil 2 remaster is different from the original?

Resident Evil 2 Remake Comparison
Resident Evil 2 Remake Comparison

The Raccoon City Police Station is the primary location of the gameplay demo presented at E3 2018. The remaster seems to closely redeveloped many of the area’s rooms & corridors while new details have been introduced to give a new look to the 1998 Resident Evil 2. The police station rooms are modified but the whole structure remains mostly the same. Some areas seems to be darker than in Resident Evil 2 & Leon can only navigate the environment using flashlight. When you open a door, you won’t see any loading screens. Zombies will now chase you from room to room so you can no longer escape.

Will Resident Evil 2 remake use the Zapping System?

The Resident Evil 2 featured two separate campaign where you had the choice to choose either Leon or Claire. Based on who you finished the story campaign with, you could then begin the game again with a new character. This closely tied into the Zapping System where each of the two protagonists are confronted with different storylines & puzzles based on the order you decide to play their scenarios. You could choose the scenario A with either of the two playable characters & then finishing their subsequent B scenario, resulting in a total of 4 different scenarios.

It looks like there is no Zapping System in the remaster edition but will use two totally separate campaigns starring Leon & Claire. We don’t know whether your actions in either of the two campaigns will influence the other.

Can you play Resident Evil 2 remake on PS VR?

You could play Resident Evil 7 entirely on PS VR so fans had been asking whether Resident Evil 2 remaster would have the VR support. Capcom confirmed that Resident Evil 2 remake would not be playable in VR due to the third person over the shoulder view.

Other features of Resident Evil 2 remake:

Whenever a zombie grabs you then you can stab to push them away & do not receive damage. This feature was introduced in Resident Evil remaster.

Your survival knife will remain in the body of the zombie until you take it out. We don’t know what will happen if you do not pick your knife because there are puzzles which can be solved using knife. We are not sure whether you can go back & pick it up or you can find multiple knives in this game.

I played Resident Evil 2 (1998) so many times and it was that game that led to my interest in Zombie games especially Resident Evil games.
