Each season of Destiny 2 will have a free or paid version

Destiny 2 seasons have taken a new direction & it now include a 10$ battle pass:

Each season of Destiny 2 will be available as a free or paid version, which is very similar to battle passes that Fortnite offers. The first season of Year 3, will be bundled with Shadowkeep which you can buy separately too.

The next seasons of the game will be focused on changing game’s world every 3 months. In Season of the Undying, you need to open a gate, it will contain a new activity & rewards. After 3 months, you can close this gate, & all the activities will be closed too & a new season will be unlocked called Season of the Dawn. Year 3 will include 4 seasons.

Activities:

By leaving behind old activities & moving towards new one, the world of Destiny 2 will evolve. The change in the state of the world will let the game grow much better.

The weapons & rewards for the particular season will not be lost forever. You can expect the weapons you have not picked up to come back within 6 months. There will be periods you will not be able to acquire old items.

Artifacts:

The seasonal artifacts let you indefinitely enhance your power level. Artifacts in the game are free for everyone, & players can level them up. The artifact will help you unlock new mods. The objective of the mod is to alter the way you can interact with the world, & build unique effects against rivals & bosses.

The artifact can be leveled up to enhance the power it adds to your hero. New artifact will be introduced in every new season & old artifact will become obsolete.

Battle Pass:

Those who do not buy battle pass, can also acquire powerful items & rewards through the season pass but the real perks are available in the battle pass with a price tag of $10. Those who spend 10 bucks will be able to access each seasonal event where they can find the real goodies.

The game will include 4 seasons in a year instead of 3. Each season will be around 10 weeks long. You can buy one season for $10 & you are not forced to purchase an annual pass if you want to join.
