Haku has made a lot of sacrifices in order to get a mask. Using his natural tricks & status of his departed buddy, he proceeds on a path to get a good future.

Utawarerumono Mask of Truth Gameplay:

Gameplay of this game is divided into 2 parts. The narrative of Utawarerumono Mask of Truth progresses as the game switches b/w each mode: adventure mode & battle mode.

Adventure Mode:

In adventure mode you can see the narrative reveal through “visual novel” – style scenes & discussion b/w people within. There are multiple cases where a hero would have to choose a destination, & multiple events can happen.

Battle Mode:

Progressing through the narrative will let you face enemies in SRPG style fights.

Battle Mechanics:

Action Chains:

Learn new action chains by upgrading your character, & more actions are added to current chains over time.

Normal Rings:

Normal rings get smaller when time elapses. Pressing attack button while the ring is reducing in radius will trigger the next action in the chain. Pressing attack button while the ring is smallest in radius will perform a critical hit.

Charge Rings:

Charge rings fill over time. Pressing & holding attack button, then releasing it when the ring is complete will trigger next action in the chain. Leaving the button at the accurate moment when the ring fills fully will perform a critical hit.

Skills:

Skills can be performed when a unit is defending against an enemy hit, & contain a variety of effects, such as dodging & countering. When you have a chance to perform a skill, 2 rings will be visible on screen. Press attack button when they overlap to perform the ability.
