Improvements in PS4, Nintendo Switch & PC versions of Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten:
Disgaea 4 & Disgaea 3 has the
same gameplay mechanics & some of the narrative elements too. They have
separate characters & narratives. Disgaea 4 has more gameplay elements for
example in battle & outside, including upgrading your base, creating your
own pirates & more.
Disgaea 3 has the core essentials
that Disgaea 1 & 2 had built upon. Narrative of Disgaea 3 is better & I
love its characters too but part 4 has better visuals & new gameplay
mechanics.
I have been wondering for years
why Disgaea series is so popular. I love the aesthetic & witty conversation
in the game, but I did not like its gameplay. I have tried to play this series
many times, but I never played any one of the game in the series for over 5
hours. However, after playing Disgaea 4, I am amazed & I can happily
conclude that I finally get the answer.
Disgaea 4 launched on PS3 in
2011, & then launched on PS Vita in 2014 & got a subtitle A Promise
Revisited. Then it makes up to Nintendo Switch with title “Disgaea 4:
Complete+” & the game has been remastered for new console with all of the
content & free DLC “Revisited”.
Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited is
the narrative of Valvatorez, a strong vampire who is no longer living the life
of a Tyrant. However, giving up the life of a vampire makes him lose many of
his powers. However at least he never loses sardines which can help him repel
evil.
The narrative is not anything
special, but what I like the most after playing the series since childhood is
the cast. They are all charming & their dynamics work best for the witty humoristic
dialogue. I like its narrative a bit but in truth, I am really amazed by its
gameplay.
The combat of the game takes
place on grid based maps. Your characters are pre-made heroes you get from the
narrative & also customizable heroes that can fall into multiple classes. The
game uses turn based combat & over the top camera.
Fights in Disgaea 4 sometimes feel
more akin to mini puzzle games. Almost every battle in Disgaea 4 has these,
& using them to your benefit can make fights a lot more fascinating.
During battles, you are sent back
to your base where you can purchase objects, devices, cure your friends, use
mana collected in fights to unlock & enhance skills, etc. One important
thing that has comeback from previous game that can assist beginners is the
Cheat Shop, first launched in Disgaea D2 & Revisited. This can let you
improve how much health, wealth, & experience you get in battles.
