Utawarerumono Mask of Deception Review:
Mask of Deception provides a rich narrative in a visual
novel style with over 40-50 hours of gameplay.
You must protect Haku & his team by participating in
SRPG battle against different enemies. The combat system uses turn based
tactics & Attack Chain mechanics.
Utawarerumono Mask of Deception Story:
A girl does not remember anything. She wakes up & finds
herself in the middle of a strange snowscape. She wants to know how she gets
there & she does not even recall her name.

She wants to do something but soon she faces a creature that
comes out of the ice & attacks her. She runs away but the monster is able
to chase her. Then another girl appears & she saves her life.
Utawarerumono Mask of Deception Gameplay:
Utawarerumono Mask of Deception is divided into 2 parts. The
narrative of the game progresses as it switches b/w each mode.
In adventure mode, you can see the narrative reveal through
style scenes much like visual novel & dialogue b/w people. You can have the
chance to select protagonist’s next destination.
Battle Mode:
By advancing through the tale, you will face enemies in SRPG
style combats.
Before Fight:
Before fight begins, you need to choose fighters you want to
involve in the fight. Some confrontations will need specific fighter to take
the field.
Fight:
Fight concludes when every condition required for victory
have been achieved. You will receive rewards like experience, bonus points
& equipment after each fight’s end.
Battle Mechanics:
Action Chains:
The accurate sequence of actions in a chain is different for
every character performing it, such as attacking, healing, countering &
buffing. Learn new action chains by upgrading your unit, & more actions
will be added to current chain as time elapses.
Normal Rings:
Normal rings shrink with time. Press attack button when the
ring is growing smaller to trigger the next action in the chain.
Press action button when the ring has the smallest ratio to
perform a critical hit.
Charge Rings:
Charge rings fill with time. Pressing & holding attack
button, & then releasing it when the ring is complete will perform the next
action in the chain.
Leaving at the correct instant when the ring is fully filled
will perform a critical hit.
Auto Success Mode:
Those who have difficulty finishing action chains can use
auto success feature to trigger actions, but the character who performs the
chain can’t make critical hits while doing it.
Skills:
Skills can be performed when a character is defending
against a hit, & it contain a variety of effects, such as dodging &
countering. When you have a chance to perform an ability, 2 rings will be
visible on screen. Press the button when both rings overlap to perform the
ability.
Overzeal:
Character build up zeal by performing most action chains. If
a character achieves complete zeal, it will enter overzeal state & will be
able to act once again.
Final Strike:
As character upgrade, more actions are available in the
action chains, ending in the character learning a Final Strike. Every unit has
a unique final strike, & may be used when an action chain is finished
during overzeal.
