PS5 DualSense vs Xbox Series X Gamepad: Design:
The way controller feels when you
are holding it is very crucial part of the design, but we need to have a grip
on it first in order to feel it. However, we can determine from the look of the
controller & layout of both controllers to claim something.
Dual Sense is bolder in design due
to default colorway that Sony revealed as compared to Xbox Series X gamepad.
Dual Sense has dual colors black & white, & the blue lighting now comes
from around the central touchpad but in case of PS4 gamepad, it would come
from the light bar.
PS5 DualSense Design

Dual Sense is based on PS4
controller & smoothened out some of the bumps & ridges, & it is a
bit smaller & look like Xbox controller, but most of its design features
can give appearance of PlayStation controller.
Xbox Series X controller looks
similar to its previous version with a bit mix of the Xbox Elite Wireless
controller. Like Dual Sense, Xbox Series X controller has smoothened out the
bumps & ridges. A new feature is the addition of share button at the center
of controller. It is difficult to tell the difference b/w Xbox Series X
controller & its previous version.
Both controllers look improved in
design & they give a better grip on the controller after removing any hard angles
or indentations.
PS5 DualSense vs Xbox Series X Gamepad: Buttons:
Both gamepads have typical 4
buttons layout on the right, 4 triggers at the top & a d-pad is available.
PS5 gamepad has a slightly
bigger touchpad, a mic & speaker. The controller features options &
create buttons. We are waiting for more details about its functionality but we
know that it allows us to share videos or take screenshots, & share with
others.
On the other side next-gen Xbox
gamepad features a share button. Both Switch & PS4 are also using the share
button so it is a big modification from Xbox.

A fresh hybrid d-pad is added to
Xbox Series X controller, which can provide more degree of control for diagonal
input. The controller is more textured for better grip. The controller has
enhanced latency, less delay b/w pressing button & receiving a response on
TV screen.
We have not heard anything from
Microsoft about haptic feedback or triggers, so Sony has done a great job by
offering adaptive triggers & tweaking the touchpad that change the sensation
of playing games.
PS5 DualSense vs Xbox Series X Gamepad: Compatibility:
People use console gamepads on
Desktop or laptop because it feels so good. So let’s see whether next-gen
consoles controller work on PC or not?
Dual Sense has not shared news
about its compatibility with PS4 & PC. However, it is simple to connect PS4
controller with PC, so hopefully Dual Sense will offer this feature too.
Xbox Series X is backward
compatible with all previous gamepads. This seems a big challenge for Sony PS5
because next-gen console games from Sony do not support PS4 controllers.

Controllers are costly & if
you wish to buy a controller for your friend to play local co-operative games
then you need to save more pocket money. Sony PS5 is backward compatible with
PS4 games & you can play previous generation games on PS5 using PS4
controllers. But for PS5 games you must have Dual Sense “PS5 controller” or
otherwise you won’t be able to play them.
Next-gen Xbox supports all
previous controllers such as standard & Xbox Elite models. The reason
behind PS5 games only support Dual Sense is particularly because it features haptic
feedback. Dual Sense is advanced when compared with Dual Shock 4.
Xbox Series X controller is very
similar to Xbox One controller, but it has been tweaked & there are some
improvements such as addition of cross sectioned d-pad, retextured trigger grips,
& a share button is added. You can buy it for $180, & it seems like Microsoft
wants gamers to invest on Xbox Series X console.
Here is a list of controllers
supported by Xbox Series X console to play current & next-gen games:
- Xbox Controllers
- Xbox Adaptive Controller
- Xbox Elite Wireless Controllers
- SCUF Controllers
Xbox has confirmed that its
next-gen controller will work with PC & Xbox One. Xbox One controller can
play next-gen games thanks to its backward compatibility. PS4 controller is
unable to play PS5 games. Hence Xbox Series X controller offers more
compatibility as compared to PS5 controller.
Xbox Series X vs PS5 DualSense Gamepad: Battery Life:
According to a reddit user, Dual
Sense is able to provide more time of play as compared to Dual Shock 4.
Reddit user viper_on_fire claims
that he has tested Dual Sense & he shares this news that PS5 controller
works for 3 to 4 hours longer when fully charged as compared to PS4 gamepad.
This news seems valid because viper_on_fire added a video that displays a short
look of the peripheral.
He explains that Dual Sense directional
pad & face buttons feel the same as Dual Shock 4, but L1 & R1 buttons
feel more like triggers. Touchpad of Dual Sense is further clicky, the
resistance of L2 & R2 triggers offers more resistance than Dual Shock 4.
PS4 controller was able to
provide battery life of 4 – 7 hours when charged & this is the reason why a
lot of players criticized it. The colorful light bar of Dual Shock 4 was blamed
for shorter battery span because there is no way to disable it & it is
required for PS VR.
There is no lightbar stip in PS5
controller, & Dual Sense is larger in size than previous controller.
It should be noted that viper_on_fire
did not test Dual Sense’s mic or haptic feedback, which could drain battery a
lot faster.
PS5 DualSense vs Xbox Series X Gamepad: Charging:
PS5 controller will have a battery
that can be charged using USB cable. It seems like Dual Sense will charge
quickly with USB cable.
Xbox Series X controller will use
AA batteries like before. There is a choice of rechargeable battery pack if you
want to use it.
AA battery for Xbox Series X
controller provides more flexibility, but if someone wants to use rechargeable
pack, then they need to buy it. Only we can decide which company is at the top
if we know about the battery life.
PS5 DualSense vs Xbox Series X Gamepad: Additional Features:
Adaptive triggers & haptic
feedback is among the new features that Dual Sense offers which can offer a
more immersive feeling. Such as in driving games, your car is accelerating through
different tracks for example loose dirt roads vs pavement: the feeling is
particularly different & real.

One more unique feature is
built-in microphone in PS5 controller, which can be used for communication with
friends. It could be used for other purposes in future.
Both PS5 & Xbox Series X controllers use
the same 3.5 mm headphone jack, so you can use wired headset.
Dual Sense is way better than
Xbox Series X controller because it can provide a lot of extra features that
are not available on Xbox Series X controller.

/ similarities between PS5 Dual Sense & Xbox Series X controllers, then
