## Provide solutions for PEMDAS Problems:

PEMDAS is an acronym of the words parenthesis, exponent, multiplication, division, addition & subtraction. If a given math expression has two or more operations, then you need to use PEMDAS to find first, second, third & so on, until the outcome is available. If a given math expression has grouping symbols, then according to PEMDAS, you must calculate inside the grouping symbols first.

Provide solutions for the following PEMDAS problems:

### Question: 3 + 3 x 3 - 3 + 3 = ?

Answer: PEMDAS can be used to solve this question. We need to solve multiplication first according to PEMDAS because it has higher order.

= 3 + 9 - 3 + 3

= 12

### Question: 15 – 1 (12 ÷ 4 + 1)

Answer: This question can be solved using PEMDAS. Operations inside parenthesis must be solved first:

= 15 – 1 x (12 ÷ 4 + 1)

= 15 – 1 x (3 + 1)

= 15 – 4

= 11

### Question: 20 ÷ 5 (2)

Answer: We can use PEMDAS to solve this question. According to PEMDAS, division must be solved first.

= 20 ÷ 5 x 2

= 4 x 2

= 8

### Question) 2 + 2 x 2 + 2 = ?

Answer: We can use PEMDAS to solve this question. According to PEMDAS, multiplication must be solved before addition.

= 2 + 4 + 2

= 8

Answer: We can use PEMDAS to solve this question. According to PEMDAS, multiplication must be solved before addition.

= 5 + 25 + 5

= 35

This question involves division & multiplication operators, & we can simply solve it using PEMDAS.

There is only 1 number inside parenthesis “4” that has a multiplication operator with another number “4” outside parenthesis. This question can be written as:

16 / 4 x 4 = ?

According to PEMDAS, division & multiplication operators have same priority so if a question has both operators then we need to solve from left to right. Which means an operator on the left must be performed first.

First divide 16 by 4 to get 4,

4 x 4 = ?

? = 16

Unknown number is 16.

Hence answer of this question is A. 16

### Question) 12 ÷ 2 ÷ 3 ÷ 2 = ?

This question has multiple division operators. You need to start dividing from left to right.

First divide 12 by 2 to get 6

÷ 3 ÷ 2 = ?

Now divide 6 by 3

÷ 2 = ?

Dividing 2 by 2 gives us the final answer = 1

### Question) 48 ÷ 8 (14 - 8) = ?

Answer: First of all, I am going to explain what is PEMDAS & how it is applied to solve math problems.

We can use PEMDAS to solve above problem. First of all, we need to solve operators inside bracket.

= 48 ÷ 8 (14 - 8)

= 48 ÷ 8 (6)

= 48 ÷ 8 x 6

In PEMDAS rule, multiplication comes before division but these 2 operators have same priority, & if an expression has both multiply & divide operators then we need to solve from left to right. Division comes before multiplication so we should first divide.

= 48 ÷ 8 x 6

6 x 6 = 36
