January 2020 events of Pokemon Go contain new Gen 5 Pokemon, legendary Pokemon Moltres, & more.

A variety of activities are available in Pokemon Go. 2019 is over & with the start of 2020, you can enjoy more in-game activities. Pokemon Go sees the return of a legendary Pokemon, a new research breakthrough reward, & new Gen 5 Pokemon will be available & there is more stuff available in the mobile game.

First of all, new Special Research questline which revolves around the Team Rocket is available. The questline leads to an opportunity to fight Team Rocket boss Giovanni & capture a Shadow version of Moltres.

Players need to finish a new collection of Field Research tasks in this game. Each time they accomplish a Research Breakthrough in January, then will meet a special Lapras with either Ice Shard or Ice Beam.

The Adventure Sync Hatchathon event is back from 2 – 16 January 2020. This event allows players to get rewards which can be used to grow certain Gen 5 Pokemon. During this event, players can hatch & meet wild Pokemon that are wearing party hats including Pichu & Wurmple, while party hat Raticate, Pikachu & Wobbuffet will show up in the wild & Raids. Also players can obtain more rewards while walking certain distances.

Soon after the Hatchathon starts, the Legendary Pokemon Heatran is back in mobile game. Players can find the Lava Dome Pokemon in 5 star raids from 7 January to 4 February, & during this period, they will have the opportunity to face its Shiny form.

More new Pokemon will start showing up in the mobile game soon. Niantic has hinted that Pokemon found in the Unova region will appear in Pokemon Go but developer did not reveal any further information beyond that, so we need to see which Gen 5 Pokemon will be available in January.
